ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) -

Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC) is sending people out on the street to connect those who need jobs with people who are hiring.

The college's Network2Work program was created to help families get jobs so they can pay for their needs. It says that one-in-five families in Charlottesville don't make enough money to meet basic necessities, like housing, and food.

Next week, the program will add another 50 people to its recruiting group.

“So our job at Network2Work is to connect people to higher paying jobs so they can afford the rent in Charlottesville, which since 2011 has increased 42 percent,” said Ridge Schuyler, PVCC.

Network to Work also has an app, which has helped the program find jobs for 80 percent of job seekers, and of those, 60 percent pay more than $25,000 annually.
