CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) -

The Charlottesville Human Rights Commission and Charlottesville City Council held a joint work session on Thursday, October 11, to address concerns of both groups.

Members of the Human Rights Commission voiced concerns with council about the nature of its work and membership.

Charlottesville City Councilors emphasized the importance of community engagement when it comes to human rights issues throughout the city.

“This topic alone is a very, very interesting one for people in our community, yet it seems we can't seem to get those individuals to come to the meetings or that participation is lacking and I'm trying to figure out why," Councilor Wes Bellamy said.

Members of the Human Rights Commission agreed that they need to give more feedback on topics discussed by City Council.
