A man from Orange died in a mining accident in Culpeper County Thursday. The Culpeper County Sheriff’s Office identified the victim as 26-year-old Rony Acosta Ordonez.
The Sheriff's Office said units were called out to the Jet Mist Quarry on Rapidan Road just after 2 p.m. Initial reports indicated a rock fell on a worker.
Ordonez’ body was recovered around 8:45 p.m. and was taken to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Manassas.
First responders from Rapidan, Culpeper, Orange, Remington, and Fairfax County worked on the recovery efforts.
Culpeper County Sheriff Scott Jenkins issued the following statement:
The victim of today’s mining accident at the Jet Mist Quarry has been identified as Rony Acosta Ordonez, age 26 of Orange, Virginia. Mr. Ordonez was recovered at approximately 8:45 p.m. this evening and has been transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Manassas, Virginia. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Mr. Ordonez.
