2 Federal Lawsuits Stemming from White Nationalist Rally Head Toward Settlement

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) -

Two federal lawsuits filed between Unite the Right rally demonstrator Christopher Cantwell and two counterdemonstrators seem to be heading toward a settlement.

On Friday, September 14, attorneys representing Emily Gorcenski and Kristopher Goad filed a status report.

Cantwell filed a $1 million suit earlier this year, accusing Gorcenski and Goad of "malicious prosecution" stemming from the white nationalist, torch-lit rally at the University of Virginia on August 11, 2017.

They then filed a countersuit against Cantwell, alleging harassment in person and online.

According to the report, both sides have agreed in principle to fully resolve the case and are in the process of negotiating a settlement agreement.
