Authorities Investigating Report of Attempted Abduction of Child at Lake MonticelloPosted: Updated:
Lake Monticello police and Fluvanna County sheriff's deputies are investigating a reported attempted abduction.
A parent tells law enforcement a man with a beard in a black sedan tried to snatch her child from the 800 block of Jefferson Drive Friday, September 7.
The child was able to escape and run home.
There will be extra police patrols during school bus hours now to ensure children's safety.

09/07/2018 Release from the Fluvanna County Sheriff's Office:
On September 07, 2018 at 0654 hours the Fluvanna County Emergency Communications Center received a call from a parent advising that an unknown white male with a beard had grabbed her child and attempted to pull him into a black sedan, make and model unknown, in the morning while the child was walking toward the school bus stop.
The child was able to free themselves and fled to the safety of their residence.
This incident occurred in the 800 block of Jefferson Drive inside the Lake Monticello community. Lake Monticello Police and the Fluvanna County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area to investigate. Law enforcement was unable to locate the suspect vehicle in the area.
The investigation is ongoing at this time.
Anyone who may have seen this incident or noticed any person or vehicle matching that description in the Lake Monticello area during the morning hours of September 07, 2018 is asked to call Investigator Brandon Bryant with the Fluvanna County Sheriff’s Office at 434-589-8211.
The Sheriff’s Office and the Lake Monticello Police will be conducting extra patrols in the area around bus time for an extended period of time to help ensure the safety of the children getting off the bus.
