A Charlottesville-area nonprofit offered nonviolence training during the anniversary weekend of August 12, 2017.

Saturday’s free workshop was hosted by The Sum, which was created to help promote diversity.

Organizers say they wanted to hold the event to offer support to the Charlottesville community.

"We definitely have found that people have a lot of feelings built up around August 11, and we wanted to do something on that date, and we had an overwhelming response so we'll have more workshops down the road. But for August 11 it was important to have something to offer to the community," said Elliott Cisnero.

People who attended were encouraged to share emotions and experiences from the events of one year ago.
