While businesses in the downtown area decide whether to remain open or close for this weekend’s events, one shop owner is taking security into his own hands.

Bill Curtis, who own Tastings on East Market Street, said he’ll be at his store through Saturday and Sunday to protect it against potential damage.

“We will see what the ultimate results of all this is," Curtis said. 'It seems to me a bit like closing the barn door after the horses left and in a resounding matter that has not been measured."

Last year on August 12, fights broke out in front of Tastings and Curtis fears it could happen again. He mentioned that his store has a lot of alcohol in it, which may make it a larger target for some people.

"There has been so much publicity about this brutted about ‘OK if it discourages someone fine’ but the alt-right is only encouraged to come to create controversy to situations like that,” Curtis said.

Curtis said the doors will be locked, but he’s open for anyone who wants to come in for lunch or a drink.
