CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) -

A different kind of window shopping is underway at some stores on Charlottesville's Downtown Mall.

Colorful animal statues that are part of a silent auction called Compassionate Animals on Parade sit inside several stores.

People can walk into one of the participating stores to place a bid on one of the statues.

The auction supports Green Dogs Unleashed, a nonprofit that focuses on rescue, rehab, and placement of special needs animals.

“It's just so true to our heart at Spring Street,” says Cynthia Schroeder, the owner of Spring Street Boutique. “We're big animal lovers and with all the things going on in the world, it's nice to do something for animals."

Bidding closes on August 31, and winners will be announced the next day.
