Teens Charged in Connection with Waynesboro Robbery

Four teenagers face charges in connection with a convenience store robbery in Waynesboro Monday night.

Nineteen-year-old Darius Taquan James of Staunton and a 16-year-old Waynesboro boy are charged with robbery. Police also charged 18-year-old Jesse Elan Brand of Waynesboro as a principal in the second degree.

Charges are also pending for a 15-year-old juvenile who was not detained Monday night.

Officers responded to Kings Market on King Avenue around 10:45 p.m. Monday, August 6, for a reported armed robbery. Two suspects had allegedly entered the store with what looked like handguns in their waistbands and wearing bandannas over their faces. They demanded cash, then fled the store heading towards Ivy Street.

Police later arrested two suspects outside a Henry Avenue home. A third person inside the home was also arrested.

James and Brand are currently being held without bond at Middle River Regional Jail, while the 16-year-old juvenile was taken to the Shenandoah Valley Juvenile Center.


08/07/2018 Release from the Waynesboro Police Department:

The Waynesboro Police department has arrested two adult males and one juvenile male in connection to a robbery that occurred last night at a Waynesboro convenience store.

Officers responded to Kings Market located at 80 King Avenue at approximately 10:45 p.m. last night, August 6th , 2018, for an armed robbery that had just occurred. Dispatch information relayed that two male suspects had entered the store wearing bandannas over their faces with what appeared to be handguns in their waistbands. Demanding cash, the suspects obtained an unknown amount of money then fled the store heading north towards Ivy Street.

As officers arrived at the scene, other units converged on the neighborhoods north of Ivy Street, and as further descriptions of the suspects were broadcast one of those units observed two individuals matching the description running through a yard in the 100 block of Henry Avenue. These subjects were detained near the basement of a residence on Henry Ave. and soon a third suspect was located at the residence, along with numerous items of evidence including two BB guns and an undisclosed amount of cash.

Subsequent investigation led to the below charges against the following suspects in the case.

  • Darius Taquan James, 19, of Staunton – Robbery
  • Juvenile Male, 16, of Waynesboro – Robbery
  • Jesse Elan Brand, 18, of Waynesboro – Principal in the 2nd Degree to Robbery

Charges are also pending for a 15-year-old juvenile male of Waynesboro who was not detained last night.

James and Brand were each held without bond at Middle River Regional Jail while the 16-year-old juvenile was held at the Shenandoah Valley Juvenile Center.
