2 Charged in Connection to Shooting at Staunton Hotel

AUGUSTA COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) -

Authorities are charging two men in connection to a shooting at a Staunton-area hotel last month.

The Augusta County Sheriff’s Office announced on Wednesday, July 18, that 34-year-old Jeremy Shifflett had been arrested the previous day.

Investigators believe Shifflett fired a gun in a room on the second floor of the Sleep Inn back on June 11. The bullet ended up in an unoccupied room across the hallway.

No one was hurt.

Shifflett is charged with three felonies: shooting in/at an occupied dwelling, destruction of property, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The sheriff’s office has also charged 27-year-old Isaiah S. Barker in connection to that shooting. The Nelson County man was arrested on June 25, and charged with possession of a firearm by a felon.

On July 17, 2018, Jeremy Shifflett, 34 of Stuarts Draft, was arrested, in Staunton, in connection with the shooting at the Sleep Inn.

Shifflett was charged with:

  • Shooting in/at an occupied dwelling (Felony)
  • Destruction of property (Felony)
  • Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon (Felony)

A second man was also arrested in connection with this investigation. Isaiah S. Barker, 27, of Nelson County was arrested on June 25 for possession of a firearm by a felon.
