CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) -

The sexual assault case against a former University of Virginia student appears to be headed for a plea agreement.

The court confirmed Friday, July 13, that 21-year-old Stephen Dalton Baril is now scheduled for a plea and sentencing hearing later in the month.

Baril is accused of assaulting a fellow UVA student on February 1, 2017. Policed charged him with rape and forcible sodomy.

The Richmond-area man was released into the custody of his parents on $10,000 bond. He had withdrawn from UVA in April 2017.

A motions hearing set for Friday in Charlottesville Circuit Court was canceled in lieu of these developments. His plea and sentencing hearing are expected to be taken up on July 27.

Baril is the grandson of former Virginia Governor John Dalton.
