U.S. Senator Mark Warner is urging President Donald Trump to stop the escalating trade war with China.
The Democratic senator says the U.S. should hold China accountable, but this is the wrong way to do it.
Both nations have imposed billions of dollars in tariffs on each other, which affects imported and exported goods.
Warner says the tariffs are hitting Virginia's craft-beer industry, pork industry, and soybean farms the hardest. He believes China is trading unfairly, and in his opinion, he has a better idea.
"We should have instead rallied the rest of the world to hold China accountable for its unfair trade practices in stealing intellectual property. Instead, the president has haphazardly taken on friend and foe alike," said the senator.
Sen. Warner says he is hopeful President Trump can come to a resolution with China over the upcoming weeks.
