CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia pitcher Andrew Abbott (Halifax, Va.) added another Freshman All-America honor after receiving recognition from Baseball America as a second team honoree. The first and second teams were comprised of 30 freshman from around the country.

Abbott, who already earned Freshman All-America honors from Collegiate Baseball Newspaper last month, was one of 12 on the Atlantic Coast Conference All-Freshman Team. He pitched in a team-high 24 games with 23 of his appearances coming out of the bullpen. Abbott struck out 78 batters in 51 innings pitched while sporting a 3.18 ERA. He accounted for six of the team’s 13 saves, tied for the most on the club.

Abbott fanned a season-high six batters twice, including six of the seven he faced against Clemson on April 27. He struck out five or more batters in nine of his 24 relief appearances.
