ORANGE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) -

It's tough to think about, but it's never too early to prepare for getting back to hitting the books.

In Orange County, people are helping students head back to school.

The Orange Downtown Alliance is collecting school supplies for students who are getting ready to enter kindergarten through 12th grade.

The organization is asking the community to donate items like markers and notebooks for its Backpack Buddies program. It’s also accepting cash to go toward buying the supplies.

"What happens is you've got kids now who have backpacks full, or as full as possible, with supplies they may not have been able to afford themselves," says Jeff Curtis, the executive director of Orange Downtown Alliance.

The group will be collecting donations up until a couple days before students return to classes on August 15. Click here for a full list of supplies the alliance hopes to accumulate.

Donations can be dropped off at the association's office on West Main Street.
