The Charlottesville Lady Arm Wrestlers (CLAW) hosted an evening of charitable fun Saturday. CLAW is all about raising money for organizations founded by or for women. Saturday’s event aims to raise money for the Charlottesville Player's Guild.

CLAW encourages guests to bring lots of money to buy drinks, “CLAW bucks” and merchandise. One difference between CLAW’s fundraiser and the average charity event, is that at CLAW attendees can use CLAW bucks for bribery.

"There's also plenty of bribing, you can bribe the judges, you can bribe the ref, you can bribe the wrestlers," said Caitlin McLeod, a CLAW producer. "We don't know how it's going to end. We do not. The audience can affect the show."

Members of CLAW show up fully in costume and ready to compete.

An attendee named Adam said, “I did not have a clue about what I was going to expect when I was going to come here it's definitely a lot of interesting characters.”

Participants rarely break character once the event begins.

The CLAW event represents 10 years of heart and soul, raising money for local organizations with a side of circus-like fun.

"It's Mardi Gra under a tent with women in charge," McLeod said. "Which means it's sexy but empowered, it's fun but functional and we end up with a bunch of money at the end of the night."

CLAW will be holding another event at Champion Brewing Company on September 8. The group will be raising money for the Charlottesville Derby Dames.
