Some families took their Fourth of July holiday celebrations indoors to beat the summer heat.
The Violet Crown on the Downtown Mall had dozens of people stopping by to catch a movie Wednesday, July 4.
One couple says it is a smart way to avoid large crowds spending the day off from work.
"Just important to us to beat the heat. It's hot today, it's going to be crowded everywhere. So we figured we would come up here and stay inside," said Derrick Mathis.
The theater is hosting a Free Family Film series through July 25. Those showings are at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesdays, and are first-come-first-serve seating.
