STAUNTON, Va. (WVIR) -

Newly elected Staunton City Council members took their oath of office on Monday, July 2.

Carolyn Dull, Brenda Mead, and Terry Holmes were sworn in Monday afternoon by Judge Charles Ricketts III.

Council's first action was to elect Dull as the city's mayor and Ophie Kier as vice mayor.

This is Mead's first time serving on Staunton City Council. She says she aims to focus on the city's economic growth.

"I love the city's historic focus, and want to continue to maintain what I think is one of its most important tourist attractions as we potentially head into another recession,” says Mead. “I think tourism is going to continue to make Staunton successful - it's going to continue to keep us on track financially."

City Council meets the second and fourth Thursday of every month at 7:30 p.m.
