Greene County Supervisors Search for County Administrator ReplacementPosted: Updated:
Greene County is in the midst of a transition as one of its key leaders resigned on Friday, June 29.
Now, the Greene County Board of Supervisors is in the process of looking for a new county administrator.
John Barkley had served in the position since July 2013, and he hasn’t provided a reason for his resignation.
No one would speak to NBC29 on camera, but we did obtain an email to county staff confirming his departure.
While supervisors search for an interim county administrator, Tracy Morris, the deputy county administrator, will be the point-of-contact.
An email from Michelle Flynn, the board of supervisors’ chairwoman, to county employees says in part:
"This is clearly a time of transition for the County and for you, our valued employees. The Board recognizes the anxiety and uncertainty transitions of this nature can produce. I want to assure you that each of you has the full support and confidence of the Board."
Flynn says supervisors will act quickly to hire a new county administrator.
Email from Michelle Flynn, Greene County Board of Supervisors Chairwoman:
30 June, 2018
On Friday, June 29th the Greene County Board of Supervisors accepted the resignation of County Administrator Barkley effective immediately. The Board appreciates Mr. Barkley’s leadership during his tenure with Greene County.
This is clearly a time of transition for the County and for you, our valued employees. The Board recognizes the anxiety and uncertainty transitions of this nature can produce. I want to assure you that each of you has the full support and confidence of the Board. We trust the county will continue to make progress and deliver excellent service to its citizens. We know that you will support and encourage one another throughout. The Board is optimistic that the challenges we currently face also present tremendous opportunity for progress.
The Board of Supervisors will act quickly to recruit and hire an excellent county administrator. It is also our intent to hire an Interim County Administrator to handle day-to-day operations. Until an interim administrator is on board Deputy County Administrator Tracy Morris will be the point-of-contact. Ms. Morris will also represent the County during Board meetings and assist in developing the agenda and notifying staff if they are expected to present at a meeting. It is not the Board’s intent that Ms. Morris assume the responsibilities of the County Administrator.
The Board of Supervisors is also pleased to announce that Mr. Jim Frydl will be joining county staff on July 13th as Planning Director/Zoning Administrator. Mr. Frydl brings extensive professional experience and knowledge to the position. His thorough understanding of Greene County is also an asset. As with any external candidate hired onto our team Mr. Frydl will rely on the considerable internal expertise already present in the department and throughout the administration building to learn the specifics of the role. We appreciate your full support of Mr. Frydl as he moves into the role.
Please allow me to reiterate that the Board appreciates the amount of change in a short period of time that each of you has experienced. You have continued to work diligently as a team to move our county forward, and we know that will continue. Please do not hesitate to contact any of us personally if you have questions or concerns or simply need to talk through some things.
Thank you for your commitment and your service.
Michelle Flynn, Chairman Greene County Board of Supervisors 434-989-4270.
