Harrisonburg, Va. – The Harrisonburg Police Department (HPD) is currently investigating a homicide that occurred early this morning.
At approximately 2:20a.m. officers responded to the area of W. Market Street and Court Square for two adult male gunshot victims.
Both males were transported to Sentara RMH by rescue squad. One of the male victims, identified as Kirkman Rountree, 26, of Harrisonburg, was flown to UVA University Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.
Detective’s with HPD’s Major Crimes Unit are on-scene and continue investigate what appears to be an isolated incident. The area surrounding the scene, to include Liberty Street from Elizabeth St. to Water St., and Market St. to include Court Square to High St. is closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic.
UPDATE: HPD Makes Arrest following Saturday’s Homicide
Harrisonburg, Va. – The Harrisonburg Police Department (HPD) has arrested two individuals related to the early morning shooting that resulted in the death of Kirkman Rountree, 26, of Harrisonburg and injuries to a second male victim.
Detectives with HPD’s Major Crimes Unit were able to identify a white Nissan Xterra captured on surveillance footage related to the incident. With the help of local businesses, detectives were then able to identify the occupants of the vehicle.
Late last night, a search warrant was obtained and executed at their residence in Broadway, Virginia. The two were then taken into custody and transported to the Rockingham County Regional Jail.
John Doljac, 42, of Broadway, was taken into custody and warrants were obtained for:
18.2-32 First degree murder
18.2-26/18.2-32 Attempted first degree murder
18.2-53.1 Use of a firearm in committing felony
Kara Blankenbaker, 33, of Broadway, was taken into custody and a warrant was obtained for:
18.2-32/18.2-18 First degree murder accessory after the fact
