Out of the hospital, young boy has a 'blood drive-themed' birthday party
While most boys go for a cowboy or superhero-themed birthday party, one young boy in Colorado went for a blood drive instead.
Henry Heckenberg spent his last birthday in the hospital where he was completely dependent on blood after being diagnosed with a rare blood disorder.
This year, Henry is feeling much better for his third birthday, so his family decided to throw him a community party, fully equipped with a blood donation truck.
Without donations, Henry's mom said he wouldn't be here.
"Sometimes when you give blood, you're kinda faceless and nameless, and you don't know the family that you're supporting. For us, you can put a face and name to us," said Brittany Heckenberg. "So, for us, as a family, we're really passionate about giving blood even if you don't know who it's going to. But, it's saving lives. Every day it's saving lives."
The idea was to get parents to donate and have something to do for the kids, including face painting, games and even a school bus, which is one of Henry's favorite things.
