Blue Ridge Classic Soap Box Derby Hosts Over 40 Riders
Over 40 riders showed up.
WAYNESBORO, Va. (WVIR) -
A number of roads were closed on Saturday in Waynesboro as the Blue Ridge Classic Soap Box Derby took over downtown.
The annual event hosted over 40 riders ranging from stock, super stock, and super kid car classes.
Organizers say both the race and the sportsmanship means a lot to the city.
“It’s a family environment; a lot of the families built the cars together, they race together, their brothers and sisters race each other and it's a lot of competition, but it's a lot of fun too,” said Anthony Marshall of the Blue Ridge Classic Soap Box Derby.
The two winners of Saturday’s race will advance to the world championship, which will be held in Akron, Ohio this summer.
