ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) -

An intergalactic celebration of marriage took over the Doubletree Hotel in Albemarle County on Friday, May 4.

The force was strong for the couple who had a themed wedding all inspired by “Star Wars" Friday evening.

May 4 is widely known as Star Wars Day for those who really love the franchise because of the line in the movies “May the force be with you,” which sounds a lot like “May the fourth.”

On Friday night, a couple with a passion for the series tied the knot. Weston and Sarah Webb said their "I do's" in front of friends, family, and some intergalactic creatures.

"Yeah he's very much into Star Wars and Star Trek, way more than I could ever be,” says Mike Protic, who attended the wedding. “But it's been pretty awesome. I love that he had a wedding that was Star Wars-themed."

The “Star Wars” wedding brought together fans of the franchise from across the state.

"I grew up with it,” says Kim-Mai Ryan, who attended the wedding. “My dad always showed it to us growing up."

Back when the two were living solo, they met through marching band in college.

"His story goes is that he heard me squeaking in the back and was like 'Oh my gosh, have to meet this girl,’” says Sarah Webb.

Weston introduced Sarah to the 501st Legion, which is a “Star Wars” charity organization.

"We volunteer our time and our efforts, and we go around to hospitals and different events just promoting ‘Star Wars’ and good feelings," says Weston Webb.

The couple says they have been hooked ever since.

"It's one of the most amazing things that we're involved in, and there's actually different branches,” says Weston. “There's the Astromech Builders, 501st Legion, the Rebel Legion, and the Mercenaries."

"There's more of us out there in the world," adds Sarah.

The 501st Legion has over 10,000 members across the world.

The couple says their love for volunteering with a “Star Wars” twist has strengthened their relationship and given them a great way to spend their time.
