UPDATE: Man Wanted in Connection to Staunton Shooting Arrested

Authorities have apprehended Orion Jeffrey Painter, who was wanted on second degree murder charges in Staunton. 

The Augusta County Sheriff's Office found the 22-year-old the afternoon of March 8. 

Investigators believe he shot 37-year-old Melanie Wade, who later died of her injuries at the University of Virginia Medical Center.

On March 8, 2018 Orion Jeffrey Painter was arrested without incident by the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office.

Mr. Painter was transported to the Staunton Police Department and brought before the magistrate.

He is currently being held without bail at Middle River Regional Jail. Deborah Bennett was located with Painter at the time of his arrest.
