Staunton Man Charged in Drug Overdose Death

Augusta County Sheriff's Office Press Release:

The Augusta County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of Travis M. Johnson, 23.

On Friday, 02/02/18 at 0758, deputies and investigators responded to the 2000 block of Lyndhurst Rd., Waynesboro to investigate a suspicious death. The preliminary investigation revealed that Johnson’s death was related to a drug overdose.

It was also determined that Darryl McClurkin of Staunton was responsible for distributing the drugs that Johnson used prior to his death.

As a result, McClurkin was arrested at approximately 1600 hours, 02/02/2018, and charged with the following offenses:

  • Involuntary manslaughter
  • Distribution of schedule I or II drug
  • PWID methamphetamine (possession w/intent to dist.)
  • Felony child neglect (At the time of his arrest, McClurkin had a child under his custody/care, and he also had drugs in his possession).

The investigation is ongoing and no other details will be released at this time.
