Miami Dade Fire Rescue responded to the type of call they don't receive often, but they were certainly up to the task.
Reports came in of a pelican in distress near the Miami Arena got the attention of a Miami Dade Fireboat crew this past weekend.
When the fireboat crew arrived, they saw the injured pelican still swimming in the water. The pelican had a noticeable injury to its left wing, but the frightened bird initially wouldn't let the crew close enough to help.
After several attempts, the crew was finally able to get the bird out of the water.
The bird's left wing was broken, so the crew carefully held the bird and took it to the Pelican Harbor Seabird Station for treatment.
