North Port Police Officers encountered an unexpected obstacle during a rescue on Thursday morning.
Police said a car accident on I-75 sent a vehicle airborne through a barbwire fence before hitting a tree. In the process, the vehicle went through several bee boxes in the area creating a swarm of thousands of bees.
First responders with Charlotte County and North Port Fire Departments had to clear the area of bees long enough to get to the two passengers inside the vehicle.
Thanks to a high-pressure foam spray, they were able to ward off the bees to complete the rescue and ensuing investigation.
Police have not released the condition of those in the vehicle or the cause of the crash.
