SOUTH AFRICA (WTHR) — Bettie Bee isn't like other kittens. She was born with one body but has two noses, three eyes and two mouths, TODAY reported.
The kitten was born on Dec. 12 in Easter Cape, South Africa. Her owner, who realized the unique situation, reached out for help when Bettie Bee had a difficult time feeding. She received help from a person who had experience handling cats with special needs.
A veterinarian suggested euthanasia, the Dodo reported. But her owner wanted to give her a fighting chance.
On Saturday, a video of the kitten, who was 11 days old, was posted to Facebook.
The most recent video from Tuesday says that Bertie Bees eyes are finally open.
The kitten has a rare condition called craniofacial duplication, which is a type of conjoined twinning, according to TODAY. Generally, the prognosis isn't promising, but there have been instances of those who have defied the odds.
“I'm taking it day by day and hope she will continue to thrive ... for many years. It's wonderful to see how many people are rooting for her," her rescuer told the DoDo.
