Man Faces Charges in Connection to Highway Chase by Deputies

AUGUSTA COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) -

A man is facing a slew of charges after a pursuit Thursday in Augusta County that started in Verona and ended in Staunton. 

Forty-two-year-old Samuel J. Cousins was previously wanted on drug and gun charges and ran away when deputies tried to stop him. Deputies followed cousins along Route 11 into Staunton. 

Before the chase ended. Deputies say cousins purposely drove his vehicle into the side of an unmarked sheriff's vehicle. Cousins is now facing two counts of felony assault on a law enforcement officer and 1 count of felony eluding. 

Police say more charges are pending.
