Man Charged in Connection to Wertland Street Attack

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) -

A man is facing charges following an attempted abduction near the University of Virginia.

The Charlottesville Police Department announced on Friday, December 8, that detectives had arrested 29-year-old Matthew Kyle Logarides. He is charged with abduction and sexual battery.

A woman had reported that she was walking alone on Wertland Street around 2 a.m. Friday, October 27, when a man came up from behind, covered her mouth and took her to the ground.

The victim said the attacker threatened her, but then fled when other people began to approach.

On December 7, 2017, Detectives with the Charlottesville Police Department arrested Matthew Kyle Logarides, age 29, for abduction and sexual battery in reference to the abduction that occurred at 1115 Wertland Street on October 27, 2017.
