Toddler murdered, former cult leader to face child abuse chargePosted: Updated:
MARIETTA, Ga. -- A Marietta woman is being charged in the death of a child that occurred nearly 30 years ago when she ran a religious cult.
Investigators say Anna Elizabeth Young is a former cult leader, referred to as Mother Anna by her followers, who repeatedly beat and punished toddler Emon Harper. He was no older than three when he passed.
The U.S. Southeast Regional Task Force and Cobb County Sheriff's Office worked together to apprehend the 75-year-old woman on Nov. 30.
She was arrested at the home she shares with her husband on Bridgestone Drive.
In 2001, Young was convicted of child abuse and served time in prison for bathing a 12-year-old female victim in a steel tub with chemicals causing severe burns.
Authorities believe she may be responsible for the death of other children.
