Shark attacks man on Pebble BeachPosted: Updated:
A shark attacked a California man on Pebble Beach.
Grigor Azatian is expected to make a full recovery.
The attack happened at Stillwater Cove Friday afternoon. Azatian and his father were spearfishing.
"He jumped to the boat, grabbed his spear gun, went down and saw the shark," Azatian's father, Armen, said. "A great white. From his description, it was about 15-feet."
Then the shark attacked.
"It was two or three bites," said Armen. "Not just once."
Azatian managed to get free and swim to the boat with his father.
"In that moment it was just shock for me," Armen said. "It was a horrifying scene. My thought was just to try and help him to stop the bleeding."
Armen said his son was incredibly calm under pressure.
"It was so difficult for me even to imagine because of the damage," Armen said. "I would say a lot of people; they would just faint."
Once on shore, two off-duty deputies were there to assist with the wounds.
"They were in the right place at the right time," said Armen.
Azatian was rushed to the hospital. Armen called it the longest wait of his life.
"I talked to the surgeon, big nerves are not damaged, but there's massive damage to the muscle," said Armen. "It's going to be a long recovery."
