Hillsdale Drive Construction Expected to Wrap up Next Month
Hillsdale Drive project in Albemarle County
ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) -
Construction on Hillsdale Drive in Albemarle County and Charlottesville is expected to wrap up next month after a series of bumps in the road.
The Hillsdale Drive Extension Project was supposed to wrap up in October. It will now be done in the middle of December due to final inspections taking longer than originally planned.
The extension will include a lane expansion between Greenbrier Drive in Albemarle County to Hydraulic Road in Charlottesville. A traffic signal has been added at the intersection of Seminole Court and a roundabout is being installed at the intersection of Zan Road.
Businesses and organizations nearby are ready for the project to wrap up.
"Well, Charlottesville-Albemarle is growing and that's a good thing and it's just been our turn to be in the middle of the construction zone like so many of our neighbors over time so it's been a challenge but we are doing the best we can with our neighbors and the contractors to ensure safety and access,” Peter Thompson of the Senior Center said.
The mile-long roadway project began early last summer and has been something the city of Charlottesville has been asking for since 2010.
Workers on the roadway Friday told NBC29 traffic delays will likely happen over the weekend as the final touches with paving, bridge work, and sign additions along the road will begin.
