CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) -

Hundreds of construction workers at the University of Virginia Medical Center expansion site started their day off honoring veterans.

During the group's regularly scheduled safety meeting on Friday, November 10, the construction site manager did something special to honor veterans among their ranks.

After the playing of the national anthem, two banners were lowered down the building with a special message.

“We asked the veterans that are within our workforce to step forward and to set them apart today and it was really awesome to see those guys that we work with every single day, but maybe don't take enough time to recognize the service that they gave us before,” says Kevin Smiley of Skanska USA.

The entire staff was treated to breakfast biscuits and coffee by the company before getting back to work.
