Forty-five new animals have arrived at the Charlottesville-Albemarle Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

The animals were brought to Charlottesville from Georgia to escape Tropical Storm Irma.

SPCA veterinarians arrived back at the shelter on Monday, September 11.

They left Saturday for Atlanta to rescue dogs and cats from the LifeLine Animal Project, which works to end euthanasia of treatable cats and dogs.

The shelter is prone to flooding, so they took animals in anticipation of Irma hitting there.

The animals will be available for adoption once they're in good health.
