CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) -

Champion Brewing Company in Charlottesville opened its doors early Saturday to debut its new Waterboys IPA.

University of Virginia football alum and current Patriots defensive end Chris Long helped brew the beer. Some of the proceeds will benefit Long's charity "Waterboys" which helps provide clean drinking water to rural communities in East Africa.

“As someone who produces beer that needs high quality water that it would only make sense that we could use some of the proceeds from our beer to benefit people that don't have access to water just to drink,” head brewer Hunter Smith said.

The beer's debut event goes until 11 p.m. Saturday former UVA and NFL player Nate Collins at the brewery.

Waterboys IPA will be distributed in and around central Virginia.
