The Riverheads and Stuarts Draft football team will both play in the VHSL state semifinals next weekend, as the Gladiators and Cougars each earned victories in the state quarterfinals on Friday night.

Stuarts Draft beat East Rockingham 44-31 in Group 2A East to advance.

The Cougars had two defensive touchdowns, and Izzy Johnson and Areian Sanders each scored twice.

Stuarts Draft (13-0) has now won more games than any team in program history.

Head coach Nathan Floyd says, "We've had some really good football teams here in the past, and these kids deserve to have that. It's great for the kids, great for the community. I'm just super proud of the kids right now."

"It means a lot," adds Johnson.  "It means we worked really hard all season, and everybody comes out here plays 110% every single play, and that's all we can ask for."

The Cougars will host either Richlands or Union on Saturday, December 3rd, at two o'clock.

Riverheads beat Colonial Beach 55-20 in Group 1A East.

The Gladiators (11-1) led 41-0 at halftime, and earned head coach Robert Casto is 200th career victory.

Two-seed Riverheads will travel to face top-seed Galax in the state semifinals on Saturday at 1:30 pm.
