CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) -

Many stores opened early Friday morning for shoppers looking for great bargains.

According to the National Retail Federation, American's will spend on average $935.58 during this year's holiday shopping season.

For those who haven't made it out yet, I have a few tips to help make the day go smoothly:

  • First, make sure you are prepared for the lines, waiting, and in some places that means outside in the cold.
  • Have an idea of what you are looking for - a lot of retailers have an online preview you can check out showing you deals they will offer today.
  • Makes sure to do some homework and compare prices before you go out - that will save you a lot of headache later.
  • And of the biggest things that can save you some stress at the end of the trip is to keep an eye on your car.

“We keep everything running smoothly as far as the parking areas. We suggest that people try to make a note of where they park their car, which mall entrance they come in here, or which department store entrance,” said Fashion Square General Manager Karen Weiner.

And finally, remember to just pace yourself and take it easy this Black Friday.
