Some beer makers say Charlottesville’s Downtown Mall will soon see its first brewery. The new business is a partnership between Champion Brewery and Ten Course Hospitality.

The new brewery and restaurant is called Brasserie Saison. It will sit on 111 East Main Street inside the space that used to be Jean Theory.

Construction is already underway at Brasserie Saison.

The new business plans to brew small batch classic beers like saison, farmhouse, and biere de Garde on location. Food will come from a seasonal menu with some ingredients from local farms.

The brewery will also serve as a catering partner with Old Metropolitan Hall.

The two locations are connected with an underground kitchen and passageway.

“There's never been a brewery on the Downtown Mall before, that's certainly a first. But specifically, the cuisine and the level of service we're going to have here is unlike anything nearby. What we're doing with this type of beer food hasn't really been done in the area,” said Hunter Smith, co-owner of Brasserie Saison.

Brasserie Saison will have 45 seats inside and 30 seats outside on the patio.

The restaurant will have lunch and dinner hours and plans to be open seven days a week.

Owners are aiming on opening the doors February 1.
