A Greene County family is forced to find somewhere else to stay after a fire burned through the roof of their home.

Firefighters say flames were shooting through the roof when they arrived on the scene Saturday evening at Blue Bell Road in Ruckersville. To contain the fire, crews pulled the ceiling down with hooks and sprayed water into the attic.

"On our arrival we had fire through the roof, we advanced through the front door with help from Dyke and Stanardsville Fire Companies we made an aggressive tackle on the interior and stopped the fire at arrival,” Greg Pumphrey, assistant chief of Ruckersville Fire Company, said.

No one was inside the home when the fire started. Crews are trying to figure out what sparked the blaze.
