Jamison Harrison led Blue Ridge with three total touchdowns as the Barons beat North Cross 41-14 to win the VISAA Division II State title Saturday from Roanoke.

The Barons scored 28 unanswered points and shut out the Raiders in the second half.

Blue Ridge senior Tariq Gough had two defensive touchdowns, including an interception for a touchdown and a fumble return.

"I'm very excited man, it hasn't hit me that I'm a state champion," says Gough. "It probably won't hit us until maybe we get the rings but its very exciting."

Senior linebacker Jahlil Puryear says, "Right after the clock hit zero, my teammate, Jarad Chouai came over to me and I just burst out in tears. Its a great feeling."

Blue Ridge trailed 14-13 in the second quarter but a long touchdown pass from Justin Armwood to Josh Colon would give the Barons a 20-14 lead right before the half.

The Barons never trailed from that point as they avenged their earlier regular loss (42-34) to North Cross.

"We've had to become road warriors to get to this point, which is great," says head coach Tim Thomas. "I'm just so extremely proud of these guys for sticking it out, facing adversity, slapping it in the face and rising up above it."

The state title is Blue Ridge's first since the 2012 season and third in program history.
