Pizza Hut is coming to Charlottesville’s historic West Main Street on the corner of 10th Street and West Main Street.

The Board of Architectural Review (BAR) approved plans for the pizza franchise Tuesday, November 15, with a few exceptions to its original design.

Board members rejected a faux wood material that was originally proposed, but the new building will have operating garage doors.

This facility will advance a new concept for Pizza Hut.

“It's kind of like the Chipotle for pizzas. It's a ready-made concept. So, pedestrian-centric garage doors open up. They're kind of trying to rebrand themselves, reinvent themselves in a lot of ways,” said Kevin Schafer of Design Development.

The BAR is also encouraging the franchise to develop a site plan for the front of the building and perhaps incorporate some planting or outdoor seating to make it more accessible to pedestrians.
