AUGUSTA COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) -

Augusta County is looking to draw more visitors to the area with its first ever tourism grant.

The county has set aside $10,000 that will be awarded in smaller amounts to up to four lucky winners. Eligible programs could include festivals, fairs, and other projects promoting tourism.

Initiatives will be evaluated based on efforts to draw visitors from more than 50 miles away.

“It’s good for the tax base, it's good for our local businesses. And so, this grant really helps to encourage tourism businesses to work together, come up with some new ideas, kind of just provide a little bit of incentive, a little bit of a catalyst in our community,” said Amanda Glover, Augusta County director of economic development.

To apply for the Spring 2017 Tourism Grant, contact Augusta County Tourism staff at staff@augustaVAbusiness.com or call 540-245-5619.

The deadline to turn in applications is November 30 by 5 p.m.
