Release from the Waynesboro Police Department:
The Waynesboro Police Department is investigating a bomb threat that was made to Waynesboro High School, 1200 West Main Street, early Monday afternoon, October 17, 2016.
At approximately 1:00 P.M., school administrators and the school resource officer were notified about a bomb threat to the building. The school was evacuated of students and staff.
First responders arrived and did a cursory search of the building, finding no suspicious device. Four bomb sniffing dogs from the Virginia State Police responded to do a more thorough search of the campus.
The campus was deemed safe for occupancy at approximately 5:00 P.M.
As part of the police department’s investigation, officers are reviewing footage from the school’s security system to narrow in on suspects.
In addition to the Virginia State Police, deputies with the Waynesboro Sheriff’s Office assisted with the incident.
