CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) -

Now is the time to take a second look at your child's car seat. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says motor vehicle injuries are the leading cause of death for children in the U.S. and many of them are preventable.

The University Baptist Church is hosting a free car seat safety check Friday, September 23. Trained technicians will be in Charlottesville to help teach caretakers to make sure their little ones are safely buckled up.

“We hope that parents can learn a lot from this. Talking to someone that's trained in this can make sure, as their child continues to grow, that the car seat will continue to be adjusted and fit right for their kids so that we can make sure that they'll be safe as they're driving around town,” said Will Brown, associate minister at University Baptist Church.

The safety check runs from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Friday at University Baptist Church on West Main Street.

Parents are asked to bring the instructions for the safety seat as well as their vehicle owner's manual with them,

There will be snacks and activities for children.
