People in downtown Charlottesville explored how art can tie into healthy living Saturday.

The Second Street Gallery hosted Conversations with Artists.

The discussion was led by artists Kate Daughdrill and Patrick Costello. They talked about food sovereignty and how creating artwork can help to gain a better appreciation for sustainable living.

"A lot of these questions started to weave together for us where it was like, well why isn't it that a can of food might also be, it's so beautiful, why might it also not be art as well as something you might eat?” Costello said.

Daughdrill lives on an urban farm in Detroit, Michigan, where she gains a lot of her inspiration.

Costello says he's also spent time there.

Saturday, people also got to taste fresh food from community members' gardens.
