School Suspends Student for Stealing Milk Carton, Mom Outraged
The parents of a middle school student in Prince William County say police went too far by handcuffing and charging their son with stealing a carton of milk from the cafeteria.
Shamise Turk's son, Ryan, is charged with larceny for the incident at Graham Park Middle School.
Ryan says a county police officer accused him of stealing the milk, which should have been free, because he's on the free lunch program.
Police say the student became disorderly, so the officer cuffed him.
"I'm angry, I'm frustrated, I'm mad...it just went too far...they are charging him with larceny, which I don't have no understanding as to why he is being charged with larceny...when he was entitled to that milk from the beginning," Shamise Turk said.
The school suspended Ryan for theft, being disrespectful, and using his cell phone.
The school system says there is an appeals process for any disciplinary action.
