People in Charlottesville got an inside look at what's new in the world of competitive sports.

On Thursday the Tom Tom Festival hosted a discussion about innovation in the athletic arena.

Patriots defensive end Chris long joined the University of Virginia football, basketball, and field hockey coaches to share their behind the scenes experiences.

“Teams are always pushing to be innovative. The shelf life of people who aren't producing is very short. It's very competitive so innovation is everywhere and it's across multiple facets of our sport and in our game,” said Long.

Long says that competition keeps sports evolving and athletes pushing forward.

The panelists talked about the latest advances in training, nutrition, coaching, medicine, and equipment.
