WAYNESBORO, Va. (WVIR) -

A business owner in Waynesboro is showing his gratitude to the community during the holiday season by giving back to people who are struggling.

Thanks to donations from the community, Giovanni Castro-Hernandez was able to serve up a hot meal and hand out all kinds of necessities for free Saturday. All of this was to make the holiday season a little bit sweeter.

Castro-Hernandez is the owner of Gio's Treasures and More in downtown Waynesboro. This is the second time in 2015 that he served up free, warm meals.

”This is a good way to say thank you to all these years we've been in business now," said Castro-Hernandez.

Gio's Treasures and More is offering an entire menu of options to choose from and on top of that an assortment of clothes, toys, and a number of other necessities.

This is all thanks to donations from community members and other Waynesboro businesses.

"It just seemed like the perfect opportunity to be involved. Instead of just boxing it up and sending it to actually be able to be hands on and help out,” said Natasha Curry.

Castro-Hernandez says a lot of people come in to his store in need of a little bit of help, especially around the holidays. He says the warmth is felt far beyond the food.

"And I even have people tell me today, 'oh Gio, first time you give me something free, so that makes me feel good, you know?" said Castro-Hernandez.

Castro-Hernandez plans to carry on this tradition every year. At this time next year he says you'll know where to find him.
