CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - Fire trucks, tractors, construction vehicles, and police cars were on display at this year's Touch a Truck event.

Thanks to a partnership between Charlottesville Fire Department, the University of Virginia Medical Center's Children's Hospital, University Baptist Church and Shenanigans Toys, kids and their families had the chance to explore, touch and learn about how different equipment works.

"As far as from the fire department, we just want the children to understand that that firefighters are your friends and we're here to serve the community and tell them a little bit about what we do and be in the community," says Battalion Chief Richard Jones, City of Charlottesville Fire Dept.

Firefighters and police officers spoke with children and families about the importance of personal safety whether they're at home, school or out in the community.
