ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) -
AHIP, the Albemarle Housing Improvement Program, is kicking off a spring fundraiser with the big goal of $50,000.
The nonprofit is partnering with the Charlottesville area Association of Realtors and the Blue Ridge Home Builders Association to make sure low-income home owners get the help they need.
Right now, AHIP has 417 families on its waiting list.
“Families need help all year round. So in the winter we talk about families without heat but in the summer, families don't have any ac. We have families that are coming out of the hospital where they no longer can walk and so they need ramps just to be able to get home and get into their homes,” says Ravi Respeto, AHIP director of development and marketing.
At last weekend's Home and Garden Festival, AHIP raised $6,000.
Several businesses, including Citizen Burger, Travinia and Langford market are also donating a portion of their sales on certain days to the cause.
